Running is a sport that involves a repetitive task, repetitive movement pattern, in which the body’s weight is absorbed and then propelled forward over and over again for often long durations and distances. The body’s ability to handle that load determines both performance and sustainability.

Running efficiency is the process of moving through the gait cycle while wasting as few physical resources as possible. In other words, being able to run at a given speed with the least amount of effort.

Running technique, including biomechanics, affects running efficiency. The more optimal one’s technique, the more efficient they are the faster they will be out on the course.

How you Gait Can Lead to Injury

How you Gait Can Lead to Injury

Efficiency does not just impact performance. It will also influence injury development. Running is the sport that is associated with the highest prevalence of overuse injuries, with the majority of these injuries occurring in the lower limb. These injuries occur as a result of cumulative stresses placed on the body from the performance of the same movement over and over again. This stress can lead to break down in the tissues and ultimately the development of pain and diminished performance.

What is a Running Gait Analysis & Why You Should Get One

Many runners struggle with orthopedic injuries. In fact, 80 percent of runners currently deal with some form of injury. Running gait analysis can help you prevent future injury, improve performance, and even prevent new ones altogether. Here are the benefits of running gait analysis. Read on to learn more about why you should get one. After all, who doesn't want to be healthier, and to be able to run faster? It doesn't hurt to have some help, either.

Gait analysis is a method for identifying biomechanical abnormalities in the gait cycle that can impact running performance and lead to injury. A thorough evaluation can identify their problem areas as well as develop a comprehensive management plan to address the problems observed.

How our Gait Analysis is Different

The gait assessments that you might be familiar with usually take place at your local running shoe store and aim to tell you about your foot strike pattern and pronation in order to make shoe recommendations. They are done in real time, at full speed, and are based on the observation of the salesperson.

This assessment is much different. Video analysis is the best way to observe a runner’s gait pattern and allows for the creation of a comprehensive management plan to address any biomechanical faults. Using motion capture technology to view your gait from the front, side, and rear, the gait assessment will be able to view your gait in slow motion observing movement of your entire body in all planes of motion.

What to Expect

What to Expect

We will look at step rate or cadence, vertical oscillation, shoulder and trunk position, arm swing, pelvis position, hip stability, knee alignment, leg swing, step width, foot strike, and mid-stance pronation, as well as symmetry side to side across those variables.

We will do group drills, individual assessments and analysis, open the floor for Q&A with Coach Jeff and much more.
